How to Overclock a CPU
Overclocking a computer's processor or memory causes it to go faster than its factory rated speed. A processor rated at 2.4GHz might be overclocked to 2.5GHz or 2.6GHz, while memory rated at 200MHZ might be pushed to 220MHz or higher. The extra speed results in more work being done by the processor and, or memory in a given time, increasing the overall computing performance of the PC. This article will guide you through each step of overclocking your CPU for faster processing speeds. You will need: Needle-nose pliers Computer fans Heat sink compound Computer Screwdriver set Computer power supp

World's Fastest CPU IBM z196 Clocks 5.2 GHz
I purchased my own computer back in 2000 something and that gorgeous beauty had a Intel Pentium 3 1.1 GHz processor. Since then, I have changed several computers which have simply grown in speed and processing power. Using the same 1.1 GHz processor would definitely make my work look like a chore today, however, thanks to hardware manufactures like Intel and AMD, I am assured of getting a better experience every time I use a PC. But here is something that will engulf all the currently available CPUs in the market, an IBM processor name z196 which clocks in 5.2Ghz. The IBM z196 processor can ex

Discovering Economies Of Scope in Technology
There's this interesting joke that I came across in Seeking-Alpha " Intel bought McAfee because the bloatware that McAfee sells is second biggest driving force for CPU upgrades after Windows. And CPU upgrades are good for business at Intel" Its a strange acquisition in many senses.. Intel paid a huge premium ( 60% premium @ $48 per share in an all cash deal worth $ 7.7 billion in cash ).. Never heard of a tech-acquisition that big in recent times.. Even the big buys made by Oracle were a mix of cash & share options. So, what made Intel buy McAfee which runs a seemingly unrelated business of an

Performance benchmarks for Intel Penryn mobile processor
As some of you know, Intel has just released their next mobile processor - Penryn. In a nutshell, the Penryn processor is similar to the current Core 2 Duo (aka Merom) processor - the biggest change was the size reduction from 65nm - 45nm and the increase in L2 cache from 4MB - 6MB. This yields better battery life, less heat emitted from the CPU, and a slight improvement in performance. Anwyays, check out the great performance review from AnandTech's Intel mobile Penryn benchmarks . Some findings worth highlighting: Increase of 23 - 55 minutes in battery life (depending on the load on the CPU)

Intel Dual-Core Atom N550 Processor Ready to Ship
First revealed back at Computex, Intel's dual-core Atom N550 processor for netbooks was a tease that many of us here couldn't wait to get our hands on. Unfortunately, while the processor has "ready-to-ship" tagged to it, it doesn't look like the processor is being included in any netbooks actually shipping at this very moment. When it comes to netbooks, despite their ability to keep a battery going for awhile, processors don't excel all that much in the multitasking department. Which is one of the reasons Intel's excited to launch the N550 processor, as it's billed as a more responsive experie
