A house without love is not a home. What about a house without any furniture?
Furniture is a must-have in any building. Think of it this way: a house without furniture will not look homey and an office without anything in it will not look like a work place. Simply put, without furniture, a building will appear like an abandoned space.
Even people from long time ago knew the essence of furniture. Pompeii, the wrecked city in Italy, can boast of its ancient murals. The Greeks ev
en had their own chair and bed designs. People from the Medieval Age banked on oak as a prime material for their furniture.
There are different types of furniture and the purpose of each determines its kind. There are some that function as chambers where we can safely hide our valuables and there are those that act as extensions or expressions of our artistic natures.
* Furniture as storage.
This type of furniture serves as containers. This includes cabinets, book cases, dressers, cupboards and chests. These things are what we need to keep our important materials like clothes, plates, books or shoes.
* Furniture for comfort.
A building without a sofa or bed is not a place of convenience. There are also furniture that hold up people’s bodies. When we are tired, we look for a chair or a couch where we can stretch our tired bodies and relax for a while.
* Furniture as an area to hold activities with.
Dining tables, desks, side tables and coffee tables belong to this category. This is the furniture type where we conduct our activities such as eating, playing cards, studying, reading, or simply chatting with friends.
* Furniture as a form of art.
Aside from their practical use, furniture can also be used to beautify places. Paintings, huge jars, and sculptures help jazz up a dull space. They can also personalize an area by symbolizing the belief or the interest of a person. For example, if the owner of the house is a lover of nature, he can show his personality by exhibiting furniture that exude the beauty of forests, animals, and bodies of water.
A house is not a great house if it is empty. As such, a house must always showcase some furniture of whatever material. Furniture not only offer our houses or offices practical uses but also aesthetic value.
